How I improved my a/c cooling water installation
After struggling to like the original installation of my a/c seawater pump and reviewing literature, such as the one from Dometic installation manual ( https://www.dometic.com/en-us/us/products/climate/air-conditioners/air-conditioners-for-marine/dometic-turbo-dtu-_-115228#documentation ) - picture ...

Re: Salt water intrusion risks, safety checks
Regarding (5) Are the hoses wrinkle-free?
Needless to say, wrinkles put stress on hoses and need to be avoided; at least when the hose is utilized below waterline.

Re: Salt water intrusion risks, safety checks
Regarding (6) Are the fittings safe for saltwater? I have seen on mine and on friends' boats PVC. This is what I got from https://www.proboat.com/2010/04/the-standards-for-seacocks/ "Hardware throughout the raw-water system should be fully compatible with exposure to seawater. Usually this means bro...

Salt water intrusion risks, safety checks
I decided to create this thread to bring to our attention items that we should inspect to increase our boating safety. The focus of the thread is on items that could lead to salt water intrusion and how to reduce the chances of severe damages or even sinking. The kick-off items I have in mind are: 1...

R40 - Water on the anchor locker
The R40 anchor locker is spacious, it fits the windlass remote, up to four fenders and the anchor chain. The locker has two drain holes to the outside, which is great to prevent water accumulation and allow hose washing. However, it has two deficiencies that I do not know how to address as follows: ...

Adding a subwoofer
We wanted to add a subwoofer and an amplifier. The subwoofer to improve the sound quality in the galley and the amplifier to be able to have three zones (swim platform, cockipt, galley). We also wanted the subwoofer to be out-of-sight, hidden as it would be if factory installed. Screen Shot 2019-01-...

Add speakers - swim platform
The factory R40 has only two external speakers located in the cockipt. When we are enjoining the water and the swim platform, they can barely hear the speakers. Increasing the volume is not an option because the sound becomes to loud in the cockipt area. We decided to add a pair of speakers to the s...

Better speakers - cockipt
We decided to replace the speakers by a better unit that would fit the existing cutout in the boat. After comparing the sound of various Fusion speakers, we concluded that the best one that met our criteria was the SG-C65W. The cutout is the same as the original MSEL602. Because the new one is secur...

R40 Sound Improvements
My R40 came with a sound system that is based on Fusion. The entertainment system is the Fusion MS-UD650, which Bavaria nicely connected to the Garmin 7612 units via NMEA network. FUSION_MS-UD650_Left.jpg The boat came with only four speakers, two in the cockipt and two in the galley. The sound isn'...
